English Novelist Author Flora Thompson, best known for Lark Rise to Candleford, lived in Liphook. Her connection with the area is remembered today through local walking routes inspired by her life and writing.
The Shipwrights Way passes through Liphook, forming part of a long-distance route stretching from Alice Holt Forest through East Hampshire and the South Downs towards Portsmouth.
Liphook developed as an important coaching stop on the historic London to Portsmouth route, with travellers stopping in the village on their journey between the capital and the coast.
